David Wilkins
Upper Elementary Teacher
Mr. Wilkins, Upper El teacher at Eliot since 2001, pursued an unusual path to his career as a Montessori teacher. A native of Needham, MA, Dave earned his B.S. in Accounting from LaSalle University in Philadelphia, PA. He worked as an accountant for a number of years and also held the positions of Aquatics Director and Senior Program Director at the Charles River YMCA in Needham, MA. His experience in the child-centered environment at the YMCA led him to explore the Montessori teaching philosophy and he enjoys seeing his students thrive in a Montessori setting.
Dave is also a faculty member at the Center for Montessori Teacher Education, a nationally recognized teacher-training program. Teaching runs in Dave's family - his father taught history in the Needham school system for over thirty years and his eldest sister is a reading recovery specialist and kindergarten teacher.
During his free time, Dave likes to read, exercise, travel, and indulge in good food.
