EMPA News
Semptember 2008
Dear Eliot Families,
We hope you’ve had a relaxing summer, and like many parents, you may be planning for the start of school, perhaps gleefully!
As Co-Chairs of the Eliot Montessori Parents Association, we’d like to welcome you back to school, and encourage you to become an active participant in EMPA events. This year, we have wide variety of events – some for families, some for adults, some just for kids, and some, segmented by grade or classroom. We hope you’ll find many that you and your family can enjoy.
One of the reasons for our letter is to encourage you to volunteer to help make these events a success. One of the benefits of volunteering is the opportunity to develop relationships with other Eliot parents, faculty members and administration. Our community can only get stronger with your help and our events more successful with your participation.
We’ve mailed to you a summary of some of the events we have already planned for the year -- we have several other interesting ideas, but need your help to implement them. We welcome any suggestions you might have. In fact, the best way to act on your ideas is to join the EMPA Committee, which meets monthly to discuss and plan upcoming events. EMPA’s first meeting will be immediately following the Welcome Coffee on Wednesday, September 3, at 9:30 in the gym (or outside if it’s nice). Please use the volunteer form we mailed to you to let us know what you’d like to help with this year – you can either bring it to the Welcome Coffee the first day of school or just email one of us, Laurie Davis, lauriedavis@comcast.net or Ruth Calka at calka@comcast.net
Another opportunity to learn more about Eliot’s upcoming events is on Thursday, September 18 at 7:00 PM at our monthly Coffee with Bill. Once a month, the Head of School, Bill O’Hearn, hosts an informal gathering with parents to discuss various topics related to EMS. September’s topic of discussion will be EMPA, Eliot’s Parent Association. I hope you’ll join us on September 18 at 7:00 PM and add your thoughts for making this year EMPA’s most successful.
Sincerely,
Laurie Davis and Ruth Calka
